A sátira: do antigo regime à república ilustrada

Resumo

Este artigo tenta definir as relações entre o gênero satírico e a ascensão dos valores republicanos na literatura europeia e brasileira. Para isso, busca compreender as mudanças expressivas pelas quais a cultura do riso passou a partir do século XVIII. Baseamo-nos na pesquisa da sátira e suas relações com o Antigo Regime, empreendida por João Adolfo Hansen, bem como nas contribuições feitas por Luiz Costa Lima e Michel Foucault sobre a ascensão de valores da modernidade no campo das Letras. Tomamos as sátiras de Gregório de Matos e de Luiz Gama como exemplos para as questões levantadas. Concluímos, por fim, que a revolução epistemológica da modernidade transformou os valores veiculados pelo gênero satírico.

ABSTRACT

This article intends to define the relationship between the satirical genre and republican values. To this end, it seeks to understand the expressive changes that the culture of laughter has undergone since the 18th century. We are based on the research of satire and its relations with the Old Regime, undertaken by João Adolfo Hansen, as well as on the elaboration done by Luiz Costa Lima and Michel Foucault on the rise of modern values in the field of Literature. We take the satires of Gregório de Matos and Luiz Gama as examples for the issues raised. We conclude, finally, that the epistemological revolution of modernity transformed the values conveyed by the satirical genre.
