PRODUÇÃO DO ESPAÇO E TURISMO RELIGIOSO EM SANTO EXPEDITO/SP

O turismo é um fenômeno que tem se expandido muito ao longo das três última décadas e a sua prática está disseminada e representada socialmente de maneiras distintas. Dentre as diferentes tipifacações do turismo, a que se refere ao turismo religioso é uma das que mais se destaca à nível nacional, sendo responsável por um fluxo anual de 18 milhões de pessoas no Brasil. Alguns destinos turísticos religiosos no país estão consolidados no imaginário popular e possuem infraestrutura adequada ao fluxo de turistas, por outro lado destinos menos tradicionais emergem e ganham importância, estabelecendo-se como destinos turísticos tipicamente religiosos. Nesse sentido esse artigo se debruça sobre o fenômeno no município de Santo Expedito, no oeste do estado de São Paulo, que nos últimos vinte anos tem sido destino de peregrinação religiosa. Partindo da prática do turismo religioso, acessamos os conceitos de espaço e território e analisamos os processos que delineiam as dinâmicas locais de produção do espaço a partir de práticas devocionais.
