Algae are important organisms in the maintenance of aquatic ecosystems and serve as a food source for several aquatic animal species, in addition to producing oxygen for many living beings. This study aimed to record and describe the species of algae that occur in fishing spots on the Jauru River. The collection of material for analysis took place between the coordinates 16º12’01.02" S-57º58’14.94" W and 16º07’03.81" S-58º01’17.74" W, in two periods in the dry and wet season. Twenty-four taxa were registered, distributed in four classes: Bacillariophyceae, Zygnematophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Euglenophyceae. The species Gomphonema argur Ehrenberg var. turris, 1847, was recorded at all collection sites both in the periphyton and in the water column. In this study, it was possible to register the species found both in the periphyton and in the water column. It is important to continue the study, with greater duration and frequency, to understand the local seasonality and consider environmental variables.
