Urban micro basins degradation and the need for the involvement of schools and the community in recovery and protection actions motivated the development of an environmental education project in the micro basin of the Jacaré stream, located in the urban area of Várzea Grande, metropolitan region of the capital of Mato Grosso, Cuiabá. This micro basin has a densely urbanized drainage area with poor sanitary and environmental conditions. This project has as main objectives to increase the perception of schools and community as to the environment where they live and, from there, seek joint solutions to improve or minimize the environmental degradation of the place. It is based on three thematic axes: 1- Teacher Training: refers to the realization of a training course in Environmental Education to teachers of public schools in the micro basin; 2- Environmental Education in schools: development of Environmental Education projects in schools; 3 - Community actions: continuous mobilization of residents of the area of influence of Lagoa do Jacaré (region of springs). This methodological proposal, under development since 2015, demonstrates that one of the ways to improve or transform a degraded urban environment is EA with social participation, both in schools and in the community.
