Abstract
In this article, I propose to reflect on the practice of Heritage Education and the production of historical knowledge with elementary and high school students based on an evaluation of the pedagogy of heritage education developed by the Public Archive of Rio Grande do Sul (APERS). I approach the issue from the experience I had as a workshop in two workshops at APERS in the second half of 2015: one entitled “the treasures of the archive family” and aimed at the 7th and 8th years of Elementary School; another entitled “resistance in archives: heritage, dictatorship and human rights” designed for high school. The first works with documents that allow a look at Brazil’s slavery past. The second reflects on the period of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship from administrative processes generated by the work of the Special Indemnity Commission created in 1997 by the government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul with the purpose of receiving and evaluating requests for financial compensation of political prisoners who suffered physical or psychological violence by state agents between the years 1961 to 1979.
