O presente artigo explora os problemas vivenciados por uma Biblioteca pública em Porto Velho, Rondônia. Propomos discutir como resgatar parte da história da Biblioteca Estadual Dr. José Pontes Pinto, que ficou esquecida e obscura desde muito tempo. De certo, vai transcorrer uma analogia de antes e depois por meio das ações culturais ocorridas naquela época. O interessante é que existe uma biblioteca que poucos conhecem e que não existem ações afirmativas de atividades culturais para atrair o público leitor. Portanto, esse mecanismo deve ser criado pelo bibliotecário, para caracterizar e definir o espaço de uma biblioteca com vivência da ação cultural que passa a tornar íntima diante dos usuários e comunidade, biblioteca pública e bibliotecários.  Com o apoio de estudiosos da cultura e da biblioteca vamos expondo nosso argumento sobre a necessidade de valorização da Biblioteca.

ABSTRACT

This article aims to rescue part of the history of  “Dr. José Pontes Pinto” state library, which has been forgotten and neglected for a long time. Certainly, an analogy between its beginning and its later time will take place through the cultural actions that took place along the time. The interesting thing is that there is a library that few people in the city know about and that there are no affirmative actions of cultural activities to attract the reading public. Therefore, this mechanism must be created by the librarians in order to characterize and define the space of a library. Cultural activities should be promoted so that the space becomes intimate approaching the  community to the library and the librarians.
