O IMAGINÁRIO SOBRE A AMAZÔNIA NA OBRA “A DESCOBERTA DO GRANDE, BELO E RICO IMPÉRIO DA GUIANA”

Resumo

Neste texto pretende-se investigar como o componente maravilhoso foi aplicado ao contexto dos relatos de viagem pela região que passou a ser conhecida como “Amazônia”. Com a (des)coberta do “Novo Mundo”, elementos da cultura medieval foram impressos nas novas terras desconhecidas pelos europeus formando um emaranhado de histórias. Assim como outras partes do continente, a região amazônica recebeu uma leva de viajantes, e estes, ao penetrarem na floresta, traziam um imaginário maravilhoso de representações, as quais foram transpostas para a realidade da floresta através das crônicas dos viajantes. O corpus tomado para a análise será alguns recortes da obra A descoberta do Grande, Belo e Rico Império da Guiana, um relato de viagem sobre a expedição realizada por Walter Raleigh à lendária cidade dourada de Manoa. A tradução do relato é de Hélio Rocha. Para a realização da investigação o aporte teórico teve como base Chiampi (2015), Gucci (1992) e Todorov (1993).

ABSTRACT: In this text, we intend to investigate how the wonderful component was applied to the context of travel writings in the Amazon. With the discovery of the “New World”, elements of medieval culture were printed in the new lands unknown to Europeans, forming a tangle of stories. Like other parts of the continent, the Amazon region received a wave of travelers, and these, when they entered the Amazon forest, brought a wonderful imagery of representations, which were transposed to the reality of the forest through chronicles of travel stories. The bibliographic analysis will be based on the work The Discovery of the Great, Beautiful and Rich Empire of Guyana, a travel account of Walter Raleigh's expedition to the legendary golden city of Manoa. The work was translated by Hélio Rocha. To carry out the investigation, the theoretical contribution was based on Chiampi (2015), Gucci (1992) e Todorov (1993).
