This study intends to suggest to the field of water geography the use of geotechnologies with free software, because this kind of technology allows a spatial visualization of data about water resources, which gives greater assertiveness in the analysis regarding the exploitation of these resources so essential to human life. This is a work of bibliographic review where, at first, assuming that water as a natural good is still not a good of access to thousands of human beings, whose political system excludes them from the basic guarantees for survival, demand, problematize the main reasons that lead to the decrease in this access. In second, it presents the potential of geotechnologies with free software as possibilities for both democratization, as well as management and economic access to the good. Finally, it highlights and claims the role of Environmental Education in individual and collective training processes that can increase community awareness and participation in decisions about the present and future of water consumption relationships.
