The menina árvore, an analysis of the creative imagination from the perspective of the verbal-visual relationship present in the materialities of the book

Abstract

: In this article, we investigate verbal and visual languages as possible potentiators of creative imagination in the children's and young adult narrative The Girl Tree, written by Daniel da Rocha Leite, illustrated by Maciste Costa and stitched together by Flor di Maria Fontelles. The study points out the relevance of the image in the polysemy of meanings caused by the weaving of the link between languages. This enhancemen t is accomplished by the expansive collaboration of the visual text in relation to the verbal. We will focus on concepts and considerations about the imaginary, the illustration – linked to the graphic design – and the verbal text, in which the conjunction of the triad in the verbal-visual discourse of the story is considered. The narrative of a tree girl, who is invited to wake up to see the imaginary world, has possibilities for emotional, aesthetic and creative experiences through a narrative image in line with verbal language. All the materiality of the book, cover, title, guards, images, collaborate for the polysemy of the creation of the imaginary of a narrative that invites the character and the reader to wake up to dream.
