SOCIOECONOMIC IMPACTS OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM ON LOCAL COMMUNITIES: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE ON CANOA QUEBRADA-CE

This article presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on the socioeconomic impacts of sustainable tourism in local communities, focusing on Canoa Quebrada, Aracati, Ceará. The analysis is based on five studies that explore different areas within the municipality, including the Quilombo do Cumbe, the ARIE of Vila do Estevão, and Canoa Quebrada-CE itself. The findings show that sustainable tourism can generate significant benefits, such as job creation, income growth, infrastructure improvement, and cultural identity strengthening. However, challenges include pressure on natural resources, cultural degradation, and social tensions. The research emphasizes the need for tourism strategies tailored to each community’s specifics, prioritizing socio-environmental sustainability. The study concludes that sustainable tourism can drive socioeconomic development if management practices are inclusive and focus on cultural and environmental preservation. Future research should examine these dynamics in other regions, expanding the understanding of sustainable tourism's implications in different contexts.
