A PSICOLOGIA NO ENSINO SUPERIOR: UM RELATO DE EXPERIÊNCIA DE ESTÁGIO EM UMA UNIVERSIDADE DA REGIÃO NORTE

Abstract

This work is the result of a basic internship experience in the Psychology course, carried out at the Pro-Rectory of Culture, Extension, and Student Affairs of a federal higher education institution in northern Brazil. The focus of the participant-observation was the role of the psychologist within the context of Student Assistance, with the aim of understanding the psychologist's role in this space in relation to the demands of higher education and the importance of the National Student Assistance Policy (PNAES). A bibliographic research on Student Assistance in Higher Education and the insertion of Psychology in this field was used to gather information, as well as participant observation and an interview with the university’s psychologist. The report highlights the psychological support provided to the academic community, the main demands of the university, the limitations and contributions of the psychologist’s role in these spaces, and the possibilities for psychological practice in this area. Additionally, it discusses the challenges of psychology in the university, emphasizing the risk of an excessively clinical and individualizing approach if the psychologist's role is not clearly defined. It was observed that intervention strategies within Student Assistance should contribute to strengthening the role of psychologists in higher education, a field still under development, but with the potential to open new paths for future interns, such as the proposal to offer supervised internships.
