Abstract

In contemporary times, cultures establish constant dialogues with the urban and modern universe. With globalization, traditional popular cultures have not been suppressed, but rather re-signified and reinterpreted. The immigration of Bolivian people to the city of Guajará-Mirim-RO represents an identity and cultural dynamic that is experienced daily with the migratory flow of both Bolivians and Brazilians. The general objective of this research is to present the Bolivian cultural tradition of the celebration of the three Catholic saints in the city of Guajará-Mirim-RO, on the Brazil/Bolivia border. The research problem is: "How does the Bolivian cultural tradition of the celebration of the three Catholic saints occur in the city of Guajará-Mirim-RO, on the Brazil/Bolivia border?". As theoretical support, we draw on authors such as Águas (2014) and Hall (2006). For the methodological approach, we used qualitative and ethnographic research, which is a narrative that articulates the author's personal experience with the broader cultural context to which she belongs, creating an intersection between the individual and the collective in the production of knowledge. In this way, the celebrations of the three Catholic saints on the border are a way to strengthen the identity and culture of Bolivian immigrants and their descendants, but also include Brazilians who together share this interaction between cultures, identities, and devotion, enriching this dialogue on the border.
