IDENTIDADE CULTURAL E DESCOLONIZAÇÃO EM CIDADÃ DE SEGUNDA CLASSE, DE BUCHI EMECHETA

Resumo

Este artigo objetiva analisar a identidade cultural, no processo de descolonização, presente na obra nigeriana Cidadã de segunda classe. O processo de migração da Nigéria para a Inglaterra inseriu a personagem Adah em diferentes contextos políticos e culturais, influenciando-a na construção da sua nova identidade. Em uma luta de superação, por meio da descolonização, pode-se observar como ela, em sua condição de sujeito subalterno, mulher e negra, vivendo em um país estrangeiro, consegue inverter valores de sua época e nos fornecer uma profícua visão das lutas sociais e culturais enfrentadas pelas mulheres nigerianas para escavar seu espaço em território estrangeiro. Para esta análise, no viés pós-colonial, utilizamos os pressupostos de teóricos pós-colonialistas como Frantz Fanon, Homi Bhabha, Stuart Hall, dentre outros.

Abstract:

This article aims to analyze the cultural identity, in the process of decolonization, present in the Nigerian work Citizen of the Second Class. The process of migration from Nigeria to England inserted the character Adah in different political and cultural contexts, influencing her in the construction of her new identity. In a struggle to overcome, through decolonization, it can be seen how she, as a subordinate subject, woman and black, living in a foreign country, manages to invert values of her time and provide us with a fruitful vision of social struggles and cultural challenges faced by Nigerian women to excavate their space in foreign territory. For this analysis, in the post-colonial bias, we used the assumptions of post-colonial theorists such as Frantz Fanon, Homi Bhabha, Stuart Hall, among others.
