ABSTRACT: Virtual education emerges as an alternative to the traditional model, promoting educational inclusion and progress through equality. In this context, this research is based on a systematic review to explore the current state of virtual environments in universities around the world. To do this, a search was carried out on the Web of Science, where a total of 437 article results were found. To support this analysis, bibliometric information was used addressing Bibliometrix. These articles reveal the growing impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the education sector, as well as the increase in research in recent years. It is important to note that virtual education was already experiencing growth even before the beginning of the pandemic. However, in response to challenges as evidenced by recent research, it has been widely adopted to meet technological demands.
Keywords: information and communication technologies (tic); virtual education, higher education; educational inclusion.
