DYNAMICS OF LAND USE AND LAND COVER IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF TUCUMÃ (PA) BETWEEN 1990 AND 2000: A SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL ANALYSIS

The municipality of Tucumã, located in the southeastern part of the state of Pará, is a region marked by socio-environmental conflicts associated with agricultural and livestock farming. This study aims to analyze land use in the municipality of Tucumã between 1990 and 2000, using geoprocessing techniques, with emphasis on the Mapbiomas project. The methodology was based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis of thematic maps created in a GIS environment, using raster and vector data from Mapbiomas, as well as from the public agencies INPE and IBGE. The results show a significant conversion of forest cover into pasture areas during the analyzed period, mainly associated with the expansion of cattle ranching and the structuring of the territory based on the regional road network. Furthermore, the analysis of urban and environmental legislation, especially the Municipal Development Master Plan and Law N°. 12.651/2012, indicates low effectiveness of these instruments in regulating land use. The study contributes to the understanding of territorial dynamics in southeastern Pará and offers support for environmental and territorial planning in municipalities located on the agricultural expansion frontier of the Legal Amazon.
