ABSTRACT
This work investigates how metalanguage processes are constructed in the poems of the writer from Mato Grosso do Sul Emmanuel Marinho, in the work Caixa de Poemas, from 1997. The poet uses metapoetic procedures both in the content and in the formal structures of his poetry in order to engender reflections on the essence and importance of poetry, in a technological and capitalist society. The stylistic and structural aspects that frame his writing are analyzed, highlighting the experimentalisms and the struggle in and with poetic language. Regarding the concepts related to metalanguage, the propositions of Roman Jakobson in Linguistics and Communication (1989) and Samira Chalhub in Metalinguagem (1997) are addressed. As for the aspects related to historical and literary periodization, the following were taken as references: Lecture on lyric and society (2003), by Theodor Adorno; the book Postmodernism: the cultural logic of late capitalism (2007), by Fredric Jameson; and Walter Benjamin's chapter entitled “The work of art at the time of its reproduction techniques” (1983).
