Abstract

Any attempt to analyze contemporary poetry it's very conflicting due to our proximity with the period and the productions that are present in our daily lives. Throughout this article, we will approach pertinent issues about contemporary poetry and try to understand the production of the artist and poet Carla Diacov, in her book A menstruação de Valter Hugo Mãe, published in 2017, which besides the poems also contains illustrations and a transcript of a conversation with Valter Hugo Mãe, a Portuguese author acknowledged by his prosaic and potent narrative. Having as a cornerstone the poems of Carla Diacov, we will walk through her literary influences, focusing on the artist's illustrations, which possess very active energy in the book's composition, showing the gesture and representativity in her production. Beyond the analysis of the works, we will support the theoretical referential about the expanded field and the intermidiality to understand the relationship between visual and poetical texts.
