Abstract

Due to the evasion presented in the Informática Licenciatura course, this undergraduate course in the distance modality, offered by the Universidade do Oeste de Santa Catarina - Unoesc, a research was carried out with the objective of identifying reasons for entry and avoidance of the students in this course. The fees related to student evasion according to the coordinator of the Informática Licenciatura, presents itself beyond the expected, implying in carrying out this research. The data collected were organized in such a way as to allow a comparison with the census conducted by the Associação Brasileira de Educação à Distância, which presents the profile of the students attending distance education and the issue of dropout reported in these courses. Through this research it became possible to identify the profile of the student who seeks an DE course, helping not only to attract students, but also to keep them in the institution, adapting the courses to the needs presented by them. Allowing, through measures, to minimize evasion that is already a recurring theme presented by educational institutions and which has increased significantly in the most diverse courses and capacities.
