The public square in a small town

The square is one of the most important urban forms in the town, bearing in mind concentrating a significant part of the population which meets to talk or have fun on celebration days. Therefore, the objective of this article was to address the use and functions that Praça Vinte de Julho, located in the town center of Montanhas-RN, plays in the urban space. Fo this purpose, field research was used as a methodology, in order to carry out an analysis on the dynamics that the square exercises as an urban form that expresses functionality in the context of the town. By analyzing the research, it was found that the square has a social function on a daily basis, since it has become a meeting place and cultural manifestations.
