Abstract

The present text is an excerpt from the dissertation writing for the Graduate Program in History of the Amazon – PPGHAM, belonging to the Federal University of Rondônia – UNIR. The theme of the research is the carnival disputes between the samba schools Pobres do Caiari and Os Diplomatas do Samba, in Porto Velho, in the 70s and 80s of the twentieth century. And for this article, the chosen clipping was one of the results of the research, the issue of racism present in the carnival in Porto Velho at the time and the black resistance of a Samba School to the attempts to whiten the popular culture.
