Abstract

This paper presents a reading of the tale O homem que matou as fadas (The man who killed the fairies) contained in the work A festa dos mortos (Party of the Dead) by João Pereira Loureiro Júnior (2012), a writer from Pará, aiming to identify regional and universal elements in the narrative, from the narrative transculturation perspective, as well as to analyze whether the transculturation processes, the symbolic and cultural exchanges that operate in the text culminate in a language that contemplates a heterogeneous aesthetic or in a mestizo dialectic. To this end, the three levels of transculturation were considered: the linguistic, the literary structure and the worldview. The analysis is based on Latin American literary criticism and cultural studies, drawing on the works of authors such as Loureiro (2015), Rama (1975 - 1982), Polar (2000), and Bueno (1986), among others. From this analysis, it was concluded that: the author put side by side the Amazonian and European imaginaries in the composition

of the narrative texture, with no order of priority between them; the narrator evidenced in the text does not adhere to a submissive ideology, in which the dominator has the discourse legitimation; the symbolic and cultural exchanges operating within the analyzed tale culminated in a heterogeneous language and aesthetics, which provoke displacements of ideas and preconceived values.
