CARTOGRAPHY OF THE INCREASE OF DEFORESTED AREAS IN ACRE, PARÁ, MATO GROSSO AND RONDÔNIA BETWEEN 2018 AND 2019

The deforestation in the Legal Amazon has increased in recent years with the occurrence of droughts and the lack of action of environmental agencies in the neoliberal right. Since 1988, the National Institute of Space Research has a program to monitor deforestation in the municipalities of the Legal Amazon (PRODES) and the data made available on a digital basis contribute to the elaboration of thematic maps. The maps of the states of Acre, Pará, Mato Grosso and Rondônia, produced in the Philcarto software, contribute to the analysis of the municipalities that most deforested between 2018 and 2019. The northwest region of Mato Grosso, southeast of Pará and the municipalities of Porto Velho-RO, Feijó, Rio Branco and Sena Madureira-AC are among the most deforested areas. In the municipalities of Altamira and São Félix do Xingu-PA, 1,120 km² of Amazon Forest were deforested between 2018 and 2019. The area increased in the 10 municipalities that more desmatared corresponds to more than double the territory of São Paulo municipality. The use of images from LANDSAT, CBERS and IRS satellites contributes to the production of spatial data and control of deforestation in the most critical municipalities for greater application of environmental laws and monitoring of climate change.
