Abstract

Myths can be ways of updating facts, events and practices of the past that, due to their exceptional character, become trans-temporal and are recreated in different historical and geographical contexts. In the present text, the objective is to analyze some mythical narratives that appear in books, films and popular orality, anchoring reading in Cultural and Humanist Geography. Initially, some works and themes were selected to be worked on, and then a contextual reading was carried, guiding the analytical approach based on some relevant concepts. In the first part of the article, the mythical landscape contexts and symbolism related to the perversities of exploitation colonization are emphasized, which imposed itself as a hegemonic narrative. Then, an appreciation of some mythical reports from monotheistic religious segments is made, which present different readings for the relations with transmundano. Subsequently, it approaches how the mythical theme appears in the context of the historical relationship between men and animals, which are used in diverse economic activities, however, on the other hand, they are frightening when they are seen as ghostly entities or when they are the result of human mutation, as in the case of narratives about werewolves in different parts of the world.
