The objective of this work is to present the genesis of the small town of Canitar, whose origin goes back to the coffee period, however, presently it guides the municipal economy almost exclusively in the cultivation of sugar cane, discussing some elements resulting from this process. The emancipation of Canitar, in 1993, is part of the process of dismemberment of the municipality, after the promulgation of the 1988 constitution. To carry out the work, bibliographic references, census data were consulted and a field survey was carried out in June of 2018, in order to collect information not clarified by the consulted bibliography. It was understood that rural-urban dynamics of Canitar is currently based on sugarcane monoculture, with approximately 90% of the municipal area dedicated to this cultivation and, on the other hand, urban economic activities aren’t relevance.Downloads
