This article focuses on youth poetry and its breaks with tradition, stemming from completed basic and descriptive research. The overall objective involves examining youth poetry through the lens of how graphic design contributes to the construction of meaning in the work Daily life, passions & other flashes: Haiquases, by Luís Dill and Silvana de Menezes. The work exhibits structural breaks with tradition and innovations evident in the form and content of the poems: the "haiquases" do not adhere to the fixed form of haiku, and the verses are free-flowing; the themes also vary and resonate with young readers by addressing topics such as adolescent passions; and the work employs diverse intertextual elements—verbal and visual text—to stimulate different connections throughout the reading experience. That being said, the aesthetic and literary quality present in it is evident, constituting a positive factor, considering that the book is part of the PNLD Literary 2021 collection and is available in Brazilian public schools so that young people have access to quality reading. However, we reinforce the need for more literary productions in the field of youth poetry that include visual text in their composition, since not only the illustration, but also all the materiality present in the book is necessary for the multiplication of the meanings of poetry.
