Abstract

The objective here is to shed light on two worlds: the world of reading of two teachers, Maria Ana Morais and Maria Abijicelia Shanenawa. One, descendant of rubber tappers from the Juruá River (AC) and the other, a Shanenawa indigenous from the Morada Nova village on the banks of the Envira River in Feijó/AC. The intention is to seek an understanding of the meaning of being a teacher and, more specifically, a reader teacher. The methodology was conducted through the interview with the indigenous teacher Matsiani Shanenawa and the memory of my own formation. We take as a theoretical basis the authors Gallois (2000), Emiri (2021), Hall (2016), among others. The work concluded that my conception of reading is intricately linked to the idea of the book. The reader being understood as someone who has access to and reads books. Professor Matsiani, on the other side, moves between reading the word and reading the world. This appears to us as something essential (the book written and published) and has its importance attenuated in the face of everything around it. There is so much of implicit meaning, but we haven’t a way to compare and establish value judgments between the reading history of different teachers who live in two equally different worlds.
