Since Antiquity and in later centuries, the exchange between peoples took place in different circumstances due to wars, invasions, conquests, trade and pilgrimages. These civilizational encounters provided opportunities for and “accommodations, recreations and assimilations” as well as “discontinuities, tensions or antagonisms”, that is, they promoted and provoked “the recreation of the original elements, often in new, really original solutions” (IANNI, p. 77). The correlation of “social forces involved” is responsible for engendering “manifestations of conviviality, understanding, exchange and creativity” (IANNI, p. 84), since civilization is understood as having a configuration that is not “ready, finished , fixed or crystallized”, which can be modified “not only by the internal dynamics of its elements and nexuses, comprising institutions, ways of being, acting, thinking, feeling and imagining”. It is also transformed by its “exchange with the constitutive elements and nexuses of other forms of civilization” (IANNI, p. 90). This interlocution will take place in the modern and contemporary world at all levels of human knowledge and education will also be the stage of this exchange that gave rise to the production, transfer and international circulation of theories, discourses, knowledge, experiences and pedagogical models, especially from of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The closer relations will be verified at the level of knowledge, teacher training, articulation between intellectuals, institutional cooperation, fostering fraternity between different countries, peace through school and education, Pan-Americanism, the promotion of travel improvement of teachers, researchers and technicians in education and the pedagogical press. These are some of the axes that make up the proposal of this Dossier whose studies will contribute to highlighting the dialogues that have been established and are still established today between the countries that make up the Ibero-American universe.
